These are self-portait oil paintings of my body in a variety of sizes, with cropped compositions designed to emphasize different perspectives of my body. They become pieces and representations of my lived experiences and my personality. No one knows me as well as I do, and I know no one else as well as I know myself. My emotional and physical relationship with my body allows me to view myself analytically and critically, but most importantly allows me to view myself lovingly and with care. What does it mean to exist in a body that people tell you is undesirable, especially when you don’t prescribe to their beliefs? What does it mean to exist as all that I am, from the temporary phases to the permanent collection of experiences and emotions?
